Salvador Dali Once Said by ~FerociousEggplant:iconFerociousEggplant:

"Let my enemies devour
each other"
We had gone out for lunch.
the flies buzzing against
our window-
panes
trapped between glass and
something else,
chiton slamming against wire
wings droning on
and on and on and on
to no avail.

The road flew past us,
out from under us,
right beside us the road
had lifted off and soared
into space.
the keys jingled in the
ignition
dangling helplessly, they could do nothing but
watch
as we careened
swerved sped slid quickly towards
the restaurant.

We sat at opposite ends of the table.
the bowl
of fruit in the middle huddled
together, desparate to shield themselves
from the flies
(to them a solitary fruit fly was a plague
of locusts)
which buzzed with maniacal
consistancy,
digging prickly legs into supple,
unprotected flesh.

We ate in silence.

"I dreamed a dream in days gone by when hope was high and life was worth living.
I dreamed that love would never die and that God would be forgiving;
My life now is so different from what it seemed. Now...life has killed the dream I dreamed."

I tried to make use of personification for once in this one, perhaps that's what got you? I know I enjoyed that part when I was writing it.

Plus Salvador Dali quotes are r0xx.

Thankee.

Wow. This poem absolutely drew me in, and I enjoyed it from first to last. You've set a definite mood in it without resorting to cliche, which I always admire and you've turned a very common or even mundane experience into something impressive.

You flatter me. :) But I appreciate the kind words.

Cliche is death. :D
